Valentin Seidler

Valentin Seidler is a political economist and Senior Research Fellow at the Central European University in Vienna.

After studying business administration and political science, Valentin Seidler worked for the International Red Cross in Africa, Europe and Asia. With his PhD in Economics in 2011, he starts his research and teaching activities at the Institute for International Development at the University of Vienna. From 2014 to 2015, Seidler conducted research as a Visiting Scholar at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. In 2015 to 2016, Seidler is a Research Fellow at the IFK International Research Center for Cultural Studies in Vienna.

Seidler’s research interests lie in understanding historically evolved social and economic institutions that are understood as instrumental to long-term economic growth. In recent years, he has worked extensively on the copying of institutions, so-called institutional transplants. He teaches Global Political Economy and Development at the Central European University in Vienna.

As a resident fellow LBIDH, he leads the project “Voices” (2016-2021, Anniversary Fund of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank; Beit Trust)
