Georg Kö

Georg Kö is a historian and philosopher of science.

His research focuses on the history of the technical, the history and theory of photography, the analysis of the interdependencies of aesthetics and knowledge in modernity, as well as methodologies and practices of the digital in cultural studies. He is also a digital humanities expert and has worked in this field for the University of Vienna, the Historical Commission of the Republic of Austria, the contact point of the Jewish Community Vienna for Jewish victims of Nazi persecution, the Vienna Wiesenthal Institute for Holocaust Studies, the Otto Friedrich University Bamberg and the Vienna Library in the City Hall, among others.

At the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for History and Society (LBIGG), renamed the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Digital History (LBIDH) in March 2019, he worked on the research project “Ephemeral Films: National Socialism in Austria” (2011-2016, Future Fund of the Republic of Austria, project collaborator 2011-2013), he reduced the aesthetics of film to the essence of the serial order of individual images in order to be able to invent a new and contemporary annotation, analysis and presentation technique for the medium of film as a source in the humanities, social sciences and cultural studies.
