Georg Vasold

Georg Vasold is an art historian and member of the international research network BTWH (Berkeley/Tübingen/Vienna/Harvard).

After studying in Vienna and Utrecht, he worked as a university assistant at the Institute of Art History at the University of Vienna from 2004-2011. 2011-2017 he was a research assistant at the DFG Research Group 1703 “Transcultural Negotiation Spaces of Art” at the Freie Universität Berlin. He was a Junior Fellow at the IFK International Research Centre for Cultural Studies (2001/02), a Fellow at the Collegium Budapest (2005) and a lecturer at the University of Vienna, the Free University of Berlin and the University of Innsbruck.

His research focuses on the history of science (emphasis: Viennese School of Art History), the art theory of Viennese Modernism and the art of the post-war period, ca. 1945-1960.

At the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for History and Society (LBIGG, renamed Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Digital History (LBIDH) in March 2019), he was involved in the “Red Vienna Sourcebook” project (2017-2020, City of Vienna MA 7, chapter editor), carried out jointly with the Verein für Geschichte der ArbeiterInnenbewegung (VGA, Austrian Labor History Society).
