Johannes Knüchel

Johannes Knüchel, Germanist with focus on editorial theory, and musicologist, is an associated researcher at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Digital History (LBIDH).

He studied musicology, German studies, and edition studies in Heidelberg and London. From July 2017 to February 2020, he worked as a research assistant at the Research Unit Southwest German Court Music in the 18th Century of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences. In this role, he prepared the first edition of Fritz Kaiser’s dissertation on Carl Stamitz, which was published by heiUP in January 2023. During the same period, he also contributed to the annotated Hamann edition as a research assistant.

At the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Digital History, he was a researcher in the project “Intertextuality in the Legal Papers of Karl Kraus. A Scholarly Digital Edition” (2018-2022, FWF Austrian Science Fund) from 2020 to 2022. From 2022 to 2024 he has been working on finalizing his dissertation on Karl Kraus’ citation practices and preparing a new project on Karl Kraus.

Johannes Knüchel is co-editor of Karl Kraus: Rechtsakten der Kanzlei Oskar Samek. Wissenschaftliche Edition (A scholarly edition of the legal documents acts of Karl Kraus) and member of the editorial team for two volumes of the Critical Edition of the Works of Elias Canetti (Canetti Foundation Zurich).

Since March 2024, Johannes Knüchel has been a research associate at the Austrian National Library.
