Katrin Pilz

Katrin Pilz, historian and cultural studies scholar, is an associated researcher at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Digital History (LBIDH).

She is working as part of a cotutelles (joint supervision Ph.D at the Université libre de Bruxelles and University of Vienna) in the research team “Standardizing the Difference”. The topic of her dissertation is early medical cinematography in Brussels and Vienna. She is a PhD scholar at the ULB, external lecturer at the Medical University of Vienna. In lectures and research projects she deals with the visual history of medicine and science.

At the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for History and Society (LBIGG), renamed Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Digital History (LBIDH) in March 2019, she was a Resident Fellow (February to September 2016) and subsequently a research assistant in the projects “Sichtung und Aufarbeitung des Filmarchivbestandes media wien” (“Exploration and processing of the media wien film archive holdings” (2011-2017, City of Vienna MA 7, project assistant at the Vienna City and Provincial Archives 2016) and “Exploring the interwar world: The travelogues of Colin Ross (1885-1945)” (2015-2017, FWF Austrian Science Fund, project collaborator 2017). In the project “Red Vienna Sourcebook” (2017-2020, City of Vienna MA 7) she worked as a chapter editor. Most recently, she was a researcher in the project “Educational Film Practice in Austria” (2019-2023, FWF Austrian Science Fund).
