The presentation focuses on cinematic representations of alpinism and its multimedia performance practice in the popular education programmes of the Viennese Urania, using the example of the semi-professional amateur film “Mit Steigeisen und Eispickel” (AT c. 1934) and Arnold Fanck’s early mountain film and crowd-pleaser “Im Kampf mit dem Berge” (D 1921).
